Why listener depth beats raw play counts.
SoundCloud's public play count does not by itself establish attentive listening, a relevant fan base, or revenue. Its documentation explains the actions behind plays, likes, follows, and reposts, but does not establish the fixed 25%, 50%, and 100% retention-weighted ranking formula previously described here. Do not treat a provider's completion-rate promise as a verified discovery mechanism.
Monetization depends on the applicable program, eligible activity, rights, and account requirements. A visible play count is not interchangeable with a payable stream. SoundCloud prohibits artificial boosting; a provider's location targeting or claim of human listeners does not demonstrate that the activity complies or will generate revenue. Consult the current SoundCloud for Artists terms for the account and release involved.
A repost can expose a track to the reposter's followers, giving it a distribution route beyond its existing listeners. Its actual value depends on audience relevance and whether people choose to listen. There is no universal exchange rate between one repost and a number of plays, and no documented basis here for ranking purchased reposts above every other growth method.
